Description
Basil Hayden Toast Bourbon barrels have been previously used as a secondary finishing barrel. The bourbon – from the popular Jim Beam-owned brand – was first aged in new, charred oak barrels before being moved to these for a shorter secondary aging (less than six months).
What makes toasted different from charred? The toasted barrels were exposed to a long, gentle heat and then flash-charred. Charred barrels on the other hand, are exposed to much more aggressive heat from an open flame until they are blackened. The “toasted” approach pulls sweeter notes of vanilla and caramel out of the wood.
The barrels are freshly dumped and once used, ready for barrel-aging beer, wine, cider or other beverages.
